Unexpected results when combining alpha and displacement channels
This is probably a common issue, but being a C4D noob, I couldn’t find the solution—most likely from a lack of knowing what terms to search for. Anyhow…
I’m modeling scraps of paper for use with a thinking particles simulation. The scraps are built by applying to a plane a material with a color texture, alpha channel, and displacement map. The displacement map is used to apply a slight curl to the scraps.
The issue is arising when activating the alpha and displacement at the same time. I’m sure exactly how to explain it. It’s like activating the alpha is distorting the displacement.
Here are some screenshots to illustrate:

displacement only:
displacement and alpha–notice the unexpected displacement at the edges…
How can I combine the alpha and displacement to get the expected result?
