  • Unexpected quit while rendering through compressor!

Posted by Avrohom Kohn on July 27, 2006 at 2:57 am

Has anyone ever had this: I have a movie a little over an hour in length, I set to export through compresor, and at about 8-9 precent, final cut ‘unexpectedly’ quits. This happened about 4 or 5 times.

I’m running the latest version of FC Studio on a Intel Core iMac, 1.83 GHz, 2 GB DDR2 SDRAM. Anything else you’ll need to know?

    Thanks,
    A.N.

I forgot to mention: This project is on an external HD with a fire wire 400 connection. Could that be causing the problem? I didn’t think of that!

    Thanks,

Could it have run out of Disc space … ?

Lack of drive space would not cause an unexpected quit, lack of RAM might. Instead of Exporting to Compressor, simply export a reference Quicktime from FCP. Quit FCP, launch Compressor and then try your render.

Export to Compressor results in a much longer render time in Compressor because both applications are running. I never use this function because of this. Better to simply export the reference file and then take that into compressor.

How do I export a ‘reference’ qt file? (what is it? never heard of it!)

See, I’m new to Final Cut Pro, a little more detail would be very helpful.

    Thanks,
