  • Undo a Pre-Comp

I precomposed a group of layers then did some time remapping to that pre-comp layer. Exported the file and noticed some things I wanted to change back in the original layers.

Can I “open” the pre-comp and make changes in the original layers without having to undo all the changes and edits I made to the pre-comp layer? I’d like to preserve all I did to the pre-comp, and would hate to lose all that work just to make one little change to an original layer.

    Thanks much.

Select the layer, Right-Click > Open Composition

Yes, you should be able to just open the precomposition, make whatever tweaks you want to the component layers, and retain the changes that you made to the precomposition layer (as long as you didn’t change timing in the precomposition or something like that).

To open a precompositon, Alt+double-click (Windows) or Option+double-click (Mac OS) the precomposition layer.

For this and more information on working with precompositions, see the “About nesting and precomposing” section of After Effects Help.

Is there anyway to undo a pre-comp? I have a project in which I pre-comp’d layers and now I have decided that I want to parent other layers to layers within the pre-comp. No biggie if I can’t, but it would make it easier if I could.
