    Hi good, clever people,

We have a shoot coming up on a submarine. For one of the days we want to attach a minicam to the outside of the sub, as it dives and resurfaces. Obviously this doesn’t need to be done many times, as there only so many different ways this can be used!

We are looking for a minicam that has fairly good underwater depth and can record for a good amount of time. Ideally we would just like to hire it for a short while, oh and ideally in Scotland!!!

If anyone has any answers that would be great,

    Cheers,

    Sean

Have you looked into the GoPro Helmet Hero? I’m not really sure how deep you are going, but it’s waterproof in its housing up to 180ft. It also shoots full 1080p video on to SD cards, so you could get a lot of footage on there. It also only costs $300, so you could conceivably get two for different views. They are really fun, and make surprisingly great looking video for their size.

Agreed. I just used the Hero for an underwater shoot a few weeks ago, and it did fine. It’s not as sharp of course as the higher end cameras with housing, but for our purposes it was good.
