  • undercrank or fast motion on hpx-2000

Posted by Waldo Chan on March 6, 2009 at 3:58 pm

I record 1080i at 24p always, and in some specially case I record at 60i in order to make slow motion with after effects.

I want to make a fast motion, specifically I want to record cars at night and I want to see only the lights in fast motion (see example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFIp5SQy2Xk )

Any suggestion or examples of how to make it on hpx-2000.

    Thank you

    Waldo

You said that the only way to do it on hpx-2000 is in 720p mode?

whats steps I need to follow? settings? frame rate?

The steps are very precise in the manual. If you don’t have it, it on Panasonic’s website. 720 24p film mode.

I may be mistaken, but I was under the impression that the HPX-2000 did not do over/under cranking?

[Adam Smith] “the HPX-2000 did not do over/under cranking? “

Well, kinda but not like other Panasonic cameras in that you don’t get true offspeed frame rates (like 46 fps for example). You can shoot 720pN24, pN25, pN30, p50 and p60.

Doesn’t leave much room for under cranking unless you are editing @ 50 or 60Hz and shoot 24, 25 or 30 and even then you will have to conform the video in Cinema Tools or compressor depending on your timeline frame rate.

If you have a 24p timeline, then my suggestion would be to roll on that stuff for a while (for 30 minutes or so) then take it to AE and time remap and add a motion blur.

If you don’t have AE, you can do the same (record for a while) then time remap and add motion blur in FCP/Motion with revisionFX reel smart motion blur.
