uncompressed throughput
Posted by Jeff Griffiths on February 20, 2007 at 1:43 pmHi- Im editing uncompressed footage and having a hard time getting the sequence to play without choking. I have only 1 layer ov video, 1 stereo pair of audio. Warning of “frames were dropped…” MacG5 1.8DP 1TSATA AJA LA i/o Seems like this is not too much to ask of the machine. Any ideas about how I can get this to go?

February 20, 2007 at 2:23 pmI have read that some AJA users have to put their PCI cards in specific slots. Give AJA a call, as their website may not be updated with the most current info.

February 20, 2007 at 2:24 pmOh….just saw you were on a G5, but I still think its worth a call to AJA.
You are entitled to free tech support from them, and they are always helpful.

February 20, 2007 at 4:13 pmThe media is stored on a striped RAID with 4 Hitachi 250GB drives. I’ll check in with Hector at AJA. I agree, they do have excellent support.

February 20, 2007 at 4:39 pmIf you are using SD Uncompressed, your system should be able to handle that. Hopefully AJA can help…sounds like a possible PCI bandwith issue with slot order, but they would know for sure.

February 20, 2007 at 4:40 pmSorry- The camera master is SD Mini DV. I digitized it through component to 8 bit uncompressed SD NTSC 29.97 fps.

The 4 drive raid has plenty of throughput for uncompressed SD, but not HD. You didn’t say which flavor you were cuttting.
