Uncompressed Quicktime Widescreen Export Problems
Hey guys.
I have been pulling my hair out for days now trying to export an uncompressed quicktime.I have a project that is part DV footage and part HDV. I nested all the footage and then put a 16 x 9 mask on it all. So it all looks great.
I am now trying to export an uncompressed quicktime of the whole project to take to the lab and put to tape. But the QT always come out vertically stretched.
I have project settings of 486 X 720 and a Pixel Aspect Ratio of 1.21.
My quicktime settings for exporting are also 486 X 720 and a Pixel Aspect Ratio of 1.21 and uncompressed or “none” for a video setting.
For the love of God can someone tell me what I am doing incorrectly.
I have exported 720 X 480 with a PAR of .9 a bunch of times with no trouble but the lab said we needed these settings for blow up.
I just cant seem to make it work.
Any help would be great. I am at the end of my rope! -

Does the Lab really want widescreen? Or do they want 4:3 letterboxed?
The 486×720 1.21 is a little odd. I’m also unclear: If you are masking (letterboxing top and bottom?) 16:9 footage to fit in a 4:3 frame, then this isn’t widescreen and therefore shouldn’t use a 1.21 PAR (pixel aspect ratio). In other words, it sounds like you are stretching a 4:3 project to 16:9.
If they 4:3 (my guess), I think you want to do this:
(1) Your project should be 4:3, 720×486, 0.919 PAR (and I’d be tempted to do 720×480 anyhow). Your 16:9 HDV footage will fill the screen left/right, leaving a letterbox top and bottom. Your integrated DV footage will simply fill the screen, but you drop a mask on it so it looks like the HDV footage.
(2) Output 4:3, 720×486, 0.919 PAR (and, again, I’d be more comfortable with 720×480). QuickTime, Animation codec.Ugh. Mixing screen aspect with PAR always makes my head spin!

Thanks so much for the response.
So here’s the deal, I need to blow up to hd cam which is 1920 X 1080
and then also to digitbeta which I am guesing is 720 X 480.So I discovered that to make my uncompresed QT actually widescreen I can do 853 x 480 (854 x 486). I did this and was able to pretty much fix my aspect ratio issue. It is slightly smashed but the lab says that is normal and they can fix it.
Now there may be another problem. I am not sure. To make certain that my uncompressed file was all good, I made a dvd out of it in architect and it looked terrible. I could see some of the horizontal video lines and it looked like it had interlacing issues.Just to make sure I made a straight 720 X 480 file out of the same timeline vegas timeline and then a dvd from that and it was fine.
So I am at a loss. The issue seems to be the 853 X 480 which I think I need to be truly widescreen.
