    Hi all,

I dropped the same uncompressed QT movie, exported from FCP into both DVD Studio Pro and iDVD (first play/one-step) and burned them.

I’m assuming both programs convert to the file to MPEG2 themselves, but just wondering why the DVD burned from iDVD looks great and the one burned from DVDSP looks pretty rubbish?

Any help in clarifying this, or what I’m doing wrong would be great. Cheers.

Studio Pro needs to be set up properly weres iDVD detects your footages properties and automatically sets encoding parameters. This is great if you don’t know what you’re doing but a properly encoded piece out of Compressor first, the authored with DVDSP will look much better

I would recommend using Compressor instead of DVD SP because you have more control over the encoding. Here’s the workflow in an article I wrote on transferring HD video to DVD.
