  • Uncompressed AVI or AVI uncompressed?

    Hi,

I noticed that I have two options re: rendering an uncompressed AVI from my Premiere Pro 2.0 timeline:

    (1) I can choose “Uncompressed Microsoft AVI”

    (2) I can choose “Microsoft AVI” and then choose to render it uncompressed.

But when I choose “Uncompressed Microsoft AVI”, I get an option for YUV (either 8 or 10 bit). What is the difference between the two “uncompressed” AVI options? (ie – which delivers a better render — file size is no issue for me)

    Thanks!

“Uncompressed Microsoft AVI” will use the YUV codec built into Premiere Pro 2.0, AE 7.0, and Encore 2.0. (It’s built-in for the purpose of SDI capture through the AJA boards.) You can use it if you want, but outside of those applications, I don’t think other apps will read it. I don’t think it’s proprietary, it’s just a relatively uncommon YUV format.

I’ll let others chime in if they’ve used it with other apps, I haven’t actually tried doing much with the format (no card to capture it with, so no need for it).
