  • Uncompressed AVI + alpha into FCP

I have DVCPROHD 1080p24A footage shoot on an HDX-900. I have keyed it in Ultra 2 and exported as uncompressed AVI 32 bit with alpha channel.

I want to edit this in FCP. There will be two or three tracks of keyed material and one plate.

What is the best way to bring this footage into FCP? I am looking for the best quality.

The last track, the plate, will not have been keyed and will be straight DVCPROHD. Would it have to be brought into FCP in the same format as the keyed tracks.

I guess I am asking if I need to run this through compressor or render it on the timeline or just what is best? What would be the best codex?

The final output will be to HDCAM and DVD(not sure what flavor).

I am new to FCP and am working my way through the Apple Pro Training Series but have not found answers to these question.

    Thanks

AVI is not a supported format in FCP.

You really want a Quicktime using the Animation codec. Generally referred to as “Lossless + Alpha” in most quicktime based applications.

    Thanks Walter.

While making the move to FCP from PC based editing I had hoped to continue to use Ultra 2 which which I am familiar. I supposed there might be a way to convert avi to mov, but I guess not. I’ll get After Effects and key in that outputting Lossless.
