    Hi,
A client has requested that all their wild footage (shot on DV-Cam Tape as HDV-1080i) be supplied to them as uncompressed AVIs.
What is the best workflow/settings for this?

I thought I might be able to convert my scratch media files using Episode or Compressor but can’t see an AVI setting in either one.
If I export from the timeline using Quicktime conversion it means losing the individual clips which is not ideal, but that will do if we don’t have an option.

(We haven’t actually shot this yet, just quoting on the job so let me know if this is not the best format to shoot on given their request. This is our preferred option as we can use our in house camera and keep the quote low. Otherwise we might not even get the gig!)

Do they have any idea how huge those files are going to be? Like 7.5 Gigabytes per minute. AVI is a Windows video format, FYI.

Honestly the best work flow for that would probably not be on a mac. Capturing on a mac a then converging could be a lot of work vs capturing directly to that format on a windows machine via a capture card.

My hope is that after we win the tender the client will just forget they ever put this in the document (I doubt they know what it means) and the problem will just quietly go away.

Or, I will ask them if we just just give them a copy of the tapes. Clients always feel MUCH safer with a real tape in their hands rather than a drive so I’m sure they’ll love that idea.

    Thanks guys.
