I’m trying to figure out how to correctly export/import clips from FCP to AE without losing any resolution whenever I go in-between programs. here’s the scenario:

I want to export a clip from FCP so I can do some work on it in AE. The thing is, I’m not exactly sure what settings or codec (if any) I’m supposed to use for exporting the clip in order to keep the same quality so it won’t re-compress the clips. Here’s more info…

-the footage is SD 720×480, 24PA MiniDV
-the footage was captured (digitized) using the DV NTSC 48kHz Advanced (2:3:3:2) Pulldown Removal setting in FCP
-my FCP timeline sequences are set to the DV/DVCPRO-NTSC codec

Should I use the same DV/DVCPRO when exporting from FCP? What about when I’m done with the clip in AE…what export setting should I use then?

Thank you for any help you can give me!

you should get the plug-in “Automatic Duck” – I could not work without it now … basically it translates your FCP timeline into AE and links to the original source video … so you aren’t wasting any hard drive space or losing any quality …

if you can’t get the plug-in then: if you haven’t done any graphics or distorted the video stay in the same codec (DV or whatever) … if you have added graphics or scaled the footage or added effects etc etc then export using an uncompressed file or animation codec if you can afford the space…

maybe someone can confirm this? I’ve been using automatic duck for so long maybe there is a better way?
