  • Unable to see/add XServe Raid in Raid Admin

Hello. I know this is FCP territory but I thought I might get some good insight here. I have a G5 10.3.9 and I can’t see my Xserve in Raid Admin. I click add system and nothing appears. The green light on the ethernet port is on indicating that everything is alright. I wonder if it could be that I don’t have the right thing checked in my firewall connection under network preferences so that it is unable to see the ethernet port? My network preference for built in ethernet says its connected and on.

I’ve had this problem on and off for the past year. I took it in the shop and everything worked great thne brought it back and it worked however then eventually it stopped working again. I haven’t changed anything that I know of. I finally noticed that my top controllers ethernet port had a bent up wire so I swapped the top and bottom controllers today thinking that it would be solved but no luck. Everything else about the Raid works great!!

Is it bad to have the raid right next to the G5, like only a few inches apart? Both the G5 and raid live in below a desk that has metal rails. Could this affect anything? I am aslo having issues of my wireless airport not being able to see the netgear router on ocassion as well.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks

    Lee

Do you have the Xraid set to static IP address, or are they still on the DHCP default? If they’re on the default, you need to be running a DHCP server somewhere on your network for the controllers to see, and get an IP address from. The quickest way to get one running is just to turn on internet sharing on your mac. If you don’t want it permanently, on, do so so that you can see the controllers, then set them to a suitable static IP.

no great insight i’m afraid, but i had a similar issue once and eventually tracked it down to a bad ethernet cable, also, if you’re otherwise networked with fixed IP’s or some such, you might try creating a new location specifically for using RAID Admin …

hope it turns out to be something simple
