    Divide and conquer.

Divide the problem into two roughly equal portions and determine in which half the problem exists. Then repeat until you narrow it down to the offending piece. This allows you to test possible solutions in an log N base 2 order of magnitude number of steps which is far less than testing each and every possible setting.

Does it work on a new scene with a similar texture on a sphere? If not your cinema settings are messed up. If so, something in your scene is messed up. See? Halves.

Save to a new file. Delete half of the gun object, see if it textures properly. Repeat until it does, then figure out the offending object, or delete until you’re left with a null and one object.

Try replacing everything in the null with a simple square or sphere, like your first test.

You need to determine if it is your object settings (texture mapping, etc), or the material or your display and render settings. Swap them out and experiment.

Render to picture viewer is the way to get your finished images.
Check the render alpha and straight alpha buttons to render an alpha channel.
