Unable to Render
I’m currently evaluating PI v3.0.4 and am very impressed with its capabilities and quality.
However, no matter what I try, I’m unable to render with any success.
My PC is a Vista x64, Core i7 with 6GB with a 1GB dual-DVI ATI adaptor (i.e. with up-to-date drivers).
Upon rendering 1920×1080 to any available format (i.e. AVI, WMV, PNG, etc.) I receive back-to-back error dialogs indicating:
1) “Could not find an acceptable pixel format.”
2) “Can’t create OpenGL context.”The project renders but produces all black output.
I’ve Googled this several times in the past 24 hours but haven’t found a suggestion that solves my problem. I’ve even tried limiting my desktop to a single DVI display to no avail.
I appreciate any advice you can offer as I’m poised to purchase the software if I can resolve this issue.

Since you have up-to-date video drivers, do the following:
1) launch pIllusionRender manually
2) Click the “options” button
3) Uncheck “use hardware acceleration”
4) Close pIRender
Now try your render again — it should work fine.
Ideally you don’t want to turn off hardware acceleration, but it sounds like the only choice in your case. You may want to see if the video drivers you’re using right now are “beta” drivers, and if they are, switch back to the latest released (non-beta) drivers.
Also, if your desktop resolution is larger than 1920 x 1080, you should be able to avoid pIRender completely by maximizing your pI3 application window so it fills your desktop.

In the interim (intertwined questions):
1) Is there no way to render with hardware acceleration?
2) What exactly is it with hardware acceleration that prevents this from working on a given PC? (i.e. I’ve seen this solution mentioned elsewhere.)

Alan… Your suggested solution worked perfectly. It’s slow but it definitely gets the job done. Thanks much for the speedy response.
Please let me know if there’s a way I can tweak my PC to make hardware acceleration work.
