I’m a broadcast designer that is just starting to use C4D instead of Zaxwerks for my 3D elements. In the past 24 hours I’ve had a consistent problem that I don’t know if its just a stupid oversight on my part or a potential problem with my software: Any object I create based on a vector file and extrude doesn’t respond to any attempts to move, rotate or scale the object. The same issue applies to any primitive I generate and convert using Current State to Object. When I attempt to move, rotate, etc. the shape bounding box responds but the object does not.
Hopefully, I’m just making a noob mistake, but I have no idea what it might be. Really need to get this sorted out so I can get some work done.

    Thanks.

Maybe you are in Point, Edge or Polygon mode instead of… what’s the name… Object mode? First icon top left? 2 black perpendicular arrows with orange triangle? Just guessing…

Thank you. Yes, that does work in terms of being able to move the objects, but with Object mode on, I don’t have the “preview” arrows, rotation guides, or scaling blocks. Not sure how I “lost” those — I’m obviously doing something wrong. So, yes, I can move the objects with the Object mode selected, but I’m sort of “blind” in terms of making exact adjustments without the help of the guides.

I should add (and this is probably critical) that when I bring a vector file in, for example, the path appears with the file name that is usually associated with the null. The null object is missing in the Objects window. Only the path with the file name appears with a hierarchy line that points up to nothing.

That is strange. I always have arrows, if you mean XYZ axis in each object’s center, no matter which mode I’m in. How can you move objects if not grabbing them from those arrows (a part numeric value in object attributes)? And before you were talking about bounding boxes when you where supposed to be NOT in object mode, while I’ve bounding boxes ONLY in Object mode. Maybe not useful but also try to load standard or startup layout

Viewport Edit Menu/Configure All (or Alt-V.) Go to the Filter tab (should be in the Attribute panel – lower right) is Axis checked (it should be)

Thanks, Brian! That got me back on track in terms of being able to move things in Object mode. No idea how the Axis setting under Filter got changed — or whatever happened. Still no idea why the base null for any vector files are still non-existent, but the objects appear to be responding, so I’m not sure how much of a concern it is. Thanks again.
