Unable to create full-screen rendering
Hi there. I literally started working with Sony Vegas yesterday as I need to modify a small video to fit the new page layout of our website.
I have tried different rendering options and page properties, but I always end up with a video that shows an ugly black frame around the actual video indicating that video doesn’t is still smaller than my stage properties.
Is there a way to trim the dimensions of the actual video, but leave the page properties the same. Our video consists of different clips, which vary in height and width – frankly I don’t even know why that is.
I guess what I am trying to say is that I need to modify the video to a size that extends over the entire height and width of the stage available on our website.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Have you tried the “Stretch to fill frame” checkbox?

Yes, I did.
I also tried different property settings such as Multimedia, progressive scan and 1 Square Pix, because the video is intended for the web, but nothing seems to make a difference.

I have played with this ill-fated project for another day and while the video displays perfectly in the preview monitor (based on Good-Full settings, every time I try to render it to another format such as .mov. or wmv, it creates a smaller version that does not extend over the full screen width and height.
I know it’s probably me being stupid or just not sufficiently familiar with Vegas and this kind of work, but I really need to figure this out in order to complete the update of our website.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

I’m a little dense sometimes (my wife would say most of the time). let me see if I have this right. You are trying to create a video to place on and play from your web site. Your project properties for youe Vegas project are NTSC DV (720×480, 29.970 fps)? And you are rendering out .mov or wmv at 720×480 xfps? If the media you bring in are 720×480 (look at their properties) they will fill the screen. If the size is different (ie photos) and they don’t fill the who;e screen then you need use pan and crop to resize them. If you want them to look right you need to have ‘maintain aspect ratio’ on. You will lose part of the picture but that unavoidable. Adjust the scan and pan until you have the part of the picture on the screen that you want. There are scripts available that will ‘match aspect ratio’ automatically. I think EXCALIBUR has one.
