Why you say so?
Have you failed with 10b Unc?

As long as you are able to capture 8b Unc, sure is not a data-rate issue.
The capture is held by the KONA so I don’t understand the rocketing of the CPU use.

You have no proves that your problems comes from the KONA, so why don’t you start by optimizing the system (permissions, directories, etc) instead of looking for hardware issues?

We previously had an issue with our Kona 3 capturing 10 bit. After much trial and error and help from AJA support, they concluded it was a faulty card and replaced it. The replacement worked fine. The original card would capture 8 bit codecs flawlessly, but would add an insane amount of noise to 10 bit captures. You might just have a defect, who knows? It happens sometimes

I was able to confirm Uncompressed 10-bit also does not work. It’s most likely a Final Cut issue, or Kona/AJA issue. 23.98 ProRes HQ capture works fine. It’s only with 29.97 that I am having issues.

I am having the same issue in another edit bay which I will do more testing on tomorrow. Maybe there is some deck setting that I am overlooking.

Although not ruling out a Kona card or driver issue (which you could obviously check by swapping the card for another in your facility) it also sounds like the kind of problem you get when the settings are incorrect somewhere – either incorrect capture settings, or incorrect deck settings – so what the Kona is seeing is in some way ‘non-standard’. If you’re having the exact same issue in another suite I’d take a good look at the deck – although I’m not sure how the SDI signal can be fine for Uncompressed and not for ProRes.

Could this be as simple as a clash in the capture preset and/or Kona setup? Is the Kona detecting 29.97 from the deck? Sometimes it’s the obvious you overlook…

I have solved this issue by changing the deck control preset to Panasonic 59.94. Even though I’m capturing from a Sony SRW-5800.

Something about the Sony 29.97 preset it doesn’t like.
