I just got a new Mac Pro, and transferred my old hard drive off the old system over to the new drive on the new system. I’d like to keep FCS on my old system just in case I need it, so I was wondering if there is a way to un-register FCS on my old system, and use the reg key on my new system.

    Suggestions?

Apple pretty much works on the honor system, the only thing that you cannot do is to have them both running at the same time on the same network.

Now I know thins is not part of your question, but you might be in for some trouble.

If you simply put a drive from your old MacPro into the new MacPro and start booting from that there will be issues. The OS from your old computer will NOT have all the proper drivers for the new computer.

When Apple comes out with new machine that machine will include hardware that has never been used on previous machines. Now in order to provide the proper hardware support for that new machine Apple will do a new build of the OS. So even though your old computer may be updated to 10.5.7 and the new computer came with 10.5.7, the new computer still will have a NEWER build of the OS, the build number is on the disks that came with the computer.

If you really want to move the boot drive from your old MacPro to the new one they you should also do an archive and install of the OS from the disks that came with the computer.

How also keep in mind that if you archive and install the OS that your FCP will loose some of the components that it installs into the OS. So you will also have to reinstall FCP.

Honestly the BEST thing to do would be to keep using the boot drive that came with the new machine and to do a clean install of all your software including FCP. Then manually move over any of your user data separate.

There are no “technical solutions” to your “artistic problems”.

Interesting info. I tried to login to FCP as is, with the new drive just copied over to see what happens. Whenever I tried to render a video file, I received an error message – File Error: Access Denied. I wonder if this is because I haven’t done a fresh install on FCP.
