    Hello.

I am being told that Boris RED has a good keyer. Is this accurate? I already have it (long story), which is a lot better than paying for something I do not have. However, I am on Vista 64 with VPro9 x64. I do not have Adobe CS Anything installed on the workstation.

Do you guys think this is worth trying? Or are there known issues/am I wasting my time?

    Thanks.

    Yes, that’s true.
Look here and check the KEYS AND MATTE FILTERS:

If you are only looking for a good keyer, Then Boris RED
is a bit overkill because you can still achieve your high end
keying tasks in Vegas using a combination of its built-in
    filters eg: Chroma keying/Chroma blur/Defocus-Bokeh etc…and even
in combination with NewblueFX Chroma key filter.
And if doing this in After Effects, then Red giant Primate
    Keyer Pro
or The foundry’s Keylight is the way to go.

Yes, Boris RED has a great keyer and since you already have it you should definitely learn to use it. There is also a Light Wrap effect that you can add which will wrap the light of the background onto the foreground really helping to sell the illusion. Since Boris RED doesn’t work with Vegas Pro 9.0 yet, just us it in stand-alone mode or copy the DLL’s from Vegas Pro 8.0 and take your chances.

I asked on the Boris forum, and they said that RED will work on Vista 64 with VPro9 x32. (John, I know you said it would not work on yours after you installed Premiere.) I got it to install, and do not have time to learn it this week, but perhaps next.

Cineform is flipping out, but I will put that on a separate thread.

    Thanks, all.

Maybe there is a new installer because the Boris RED installer I have doesn’t even list Vegas Pro 9.0 as an install option (nor does it show up under Vegas Pro 9.0). Either way it still doesn’t work for me and Boris has been no help at all; some of the worst customer support I have ever experienced.

I bought After Effects CS4 and I use that mostly now. It’s not as quick because it doesn’t plug-in to Vegas but at least it works in Vista 64 which is more than I can say for Boris RED.

I do not have an updated installer. During install I just chose Vegas 7 (or 8, or whatever) and it did not work…so I installed it as a stand alone product. It does not show up in Vegas 9 at all.

It responds to simple X, Y and Z axis commands, but we will have to see if I actually get it to work. My laptop also responded to simple X Y Z axis commands, but when I went to render a simple 30 second test effect (two flips and a couple of rotations or something) in draft mode, 1/4 scale, both processors maxed out for a couple of hours, and the timeline never did move forward.

I could not get help either; but mostly I just wanted to let you know that I do not know of an updated installer.

    Hi John.

I am out of the loop until I get the new website up to speed.

    >>There is also a Light Wrap effect that you can add which will wrap the light of the background onto the foreground really helping to sell the illusion.

Is this “Light Wrap” a feature a plug-in that must be purchased? Or is it a feature native within Boris?

    Thank you,

    Norman

BCC LIGHT WRAP is present in Boris RED and FX. You will find it under FILTERS-KEYS AND MATTE.
