GREAT ANSWER. A VGA extender that uses CAT 5 costs no more than $200 US today, so it is EASY to get the cheapest, noisiest computer in the world (that is compatible), and simply extend the VGA signal (as long as it’s 1920×1080), and you have a SILENT Ultrascope.Me, I just use the HP Z400.

December 9, 2010 at 8:10 pmI’ll do you one better. Cheap computer, DVI to HDMI cable, monoprice $50 HDMI over cat5e ( https://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10105&cs_id=1010504&p_id=4065&seq=1&format=2 ) and an inexpensive 23-24 inch monitor (or perhaps a cheap TV as a monitor) to display the image.

December 12, 2010 at 10:14 pmIn my current setup machines are in the same room.
Mac pro is pretty silent compared to pc. This is why i asked.I have setup that i would try out but asked just out of interest.
It would be eazy to put all stuff away to other room but not just now.

December 13, 2010 at 10:03 pmWell, a machines quietness is normally inversely proportional to the amount of moving parts it has. That and good thermal dynamic engineering helps too.
Good news is that the Ultrascope machines don’t really require alot of power. So smallish power supply, i7/i5 type processor and a solid state drive with no optical drive, you can get the sound level down pretty low. Throw a water cooler on it (WAY WAY WAY overkill) and you can make it almost inaudible.
Throw money at it and you can do a lot.
But I completely agree. Least expensive way to make to make it silent is to put it in a room with no ears.

December 13, 2010 at 10:17 pmI have a separate room but no cooling there so i have to open its door when not sound recording.
I have one case which is pretty silent even with laptop hdd. mATX but not to much noise.
Zalman vent on cpu. Water would be pointless cost in mind.I can do it all. As i mentioned out of curiosity i asked.
