So we’ve got an Ultrascope. Never had HD scopes before.

During laybacks to tape coming through a Harris DL860 legaliser the output of either the DIgibeta or the HDCAM shows a nice legal, clamped signal, no gamut errors.

But when the same tape is played back the Ultrascope displays gamut errors, sometimes RGB, sometimes luminance. Some clips appear nice and clamped, others appear as if they haven’t been legalised.
I understand this can happen on a paused frame or while jogging, but this is happening during playback.

Same issue occurs on both digibeta and HDCAM.

Any idea what’s going on here?

yea, your decks are out of calibration. You are trusting the Harris. Record bars from your system on your VTR’s, and play them back. Critically look at your levels. If it’s ok, then it’s ok.
Maybe not. That is the very reason you bought these scopes. Who knows if the Harris is doing it’s job.
