Ultrascope configuration

Dear all…

I’m trying to get a good setup for Ultrascope.

Now I read quite some posts about the subject and read the specs on the Blackmagic site.

I read that the HP xw4600 is an approved computer.
Now I found a secondhand HP xw4600, Intel Core2Duo E8500 3.16Ghz 4MB/1066Mhz.
But the mainboard is Intel X38 Express chipset, and that is not on the motherboard list.

Also I can get my hands on the EVGA GeForce 9800 GTX.
A approved graphics card is the NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT…

Will this work…? or is EVGA and nVIDIA a total different thing. (and is only GT supported and not GTX?)

Sorry for my ignorance ,,, I never worked on a PC… been a MAC user all my life.

Hope you guys can help me out.

No need to get parts that old. Nearly any new computer with a PCIe slot will work, including current HP models (Z420). Graphics cards: a $100 card like GT-640 will work.

save yourself a lot of aggravation.
Simply buy the SmartScope Duo from Blackmagic ($995 retail), and you will have a wonderful waveform monitor/vectorscope, with no computer, no aggravation, no graphics cards, and it will do the same job. Need more than 2 display at the same time – buy 2 of them – it will take up no space, and give you zero aggravation – plug and play.

Sounds like a good way to go.
I have one question about the SmartScope Duo.
Is it easy to turn off the SmartScope ( I dont see a on/off button)
Because when I view a graded edit I like to have my clients only see the grading monitor
and that they are not distracted by wavevforms etc.

Or is there an option to turn off in the Smartview Utility?

there is no on/off button.
the utility is run via the USB port on a computer. Once you setup the SmartScope Duo the way you like it, you do not have to keep the USB port plugged in, nor do you need a computer to run this. Only if you want to change settings on the smart Scope Duo. If power on/off is important to you (I can’t imagine someone wanting to turn off a Tektronix or Leader Waveform /Vectorscope all the time), why not just get a Furman or Middle Atlantic rack mount AC power strip (about $60) to turn it on and off.
