needed to do a quick keying of some test footage for a client yesterday.

I’ve only been using premiere occasionally for clients that bring in premiere projects.

so I figure I’ll do this in premiere and round trip to after effects, then i thought,
hey lets check out what the keying situation is with premiere….

I was VERY impressed with Ultra Keyer.

now, granted my footage was shot very well with an even bright background, but
it literally took 2 clicks. Eyedropper background then set keyer from normal to aggressive and
I had the cleanest most professional looking alpha channel I’ve ever seen, done in seconds.

It needed NO tweaking settings at all!!

ok so that was cool, but then I hit the space bar to play it (red bars, so needed rendering but I didnt)

It plays back in real time without missing a beat!!! How cool is that?!?!?!?

I’d read about the power of CS 5.5 coupled with a Quadro 4000, but that just totally made my day!

The icing on the cake of course was not needing to transcode the NXCAM footage to another codec first.

    Fun stuff!!

I’m wondering though, why there is no Ultra Key in After Effects? Ya, there’s the great keylight,
but it would be nice to have Ultra Keyer in there as well. maybe in cs 6?

Anyone know why the viewer would not show the NXCAM footage video? (it did play audio fine)
when I put it in the timeline I could see it in the program window, just not the viewer.

I had the same experience in Ultra Key recently. I feel I may not have to use Keylight in AE for most greenscreen projects. I do a lot of greenscreen work, and Ultra Key is by far the best addition to CS5 to date.
