Ultimate S Photo Montage

Hi James,

This can be done easily with a combination of MotoPhoto and PhotoMontage.

Start with the MotoPhoto tab:

1. Under Motion Presets press the Edit List… button
2. In the Motion Effects Creation window press the Clear All button
3. Set the Tracks to 1
4. Set the motion to Back to Front (Center)
5. Set the Duration to 00:00:05;00 seconds
6. Set the Spacing to negative -00:00:01;00 second (a negative values makes them overlap instead of leave a space)
7. Set the Fade In/Out to 00:00:01;00 second
8. Set the Scale to 1.5 so it doesn’t zoom too much
9. Press the Add >> button to add this motion to the preset

Your Motion Effects Creation should look like this:



10. Press OK to return to MotoFoto
11. (Optional) Back in MotoFoto save the new preset by giving it a new name and click the diskette icon (I named mine “center coming at you”)
12. Set the Border to Soft Edge
13. Set the Background to None
14. Press the Add… button to load your source images
15. Press the Apply button on the Ultimate S Pro toolbar to apply MotoFoto

You should now have new track that has images with a soft border moving toward you. This gives you the basic zoom into the smaller image. Next we’ll use PhotoMontage to add the rotation and transitions.

Goto to the PhotoMontage tab:

1. Press the Clear Page button to turn everything off
2. Under Image Source click the Timeline tab and make sure Selected Tracks and All Events are selected.
3. Under Pan and Scan (Zoom) check the IN box, set the motion to 30% and the Rotation to Left
4. In the motion direction selector (with all the arrows) clear all of them and check the center only.
5. (Optional) save this Pan and Scan preset (I named mine “Zoom in Centered with Left rotation”)
6. Under Transition FX check Apply Transitions and use the Peel Out preset or create one of your own

Your PhotoMontage settings should look something like this:



7. Select the track that you created with MotoFoto. This is the track that PhotoMontage will process
8. Press the Apply button on the Ultimate S Pro toolbar to apply PhotoMontage

You should now have the images slowly rotating left as the slowly zoom in with the page peel transition between them, just like your example.

Thanks so much John! What a great response. I’ll follow your instructions. I also subscribe to your Youtube channel and have enjoyed the latest flurry of tutorials. Even the basic ones have shown me a few new tricks. I’ll keep watching them as I’ve barely scratched the surface of what US can do. I’ll post an update later after I’ve completed my vid.

One question (so far). How would the above directions change if I want to place the transitions on markers? Once I create the motofoto pan/scan preset and go back to photo montage, will the “place at markers” option override the 5 sec duration we established in the preset?

That’s up to you. If you just use Place Events at Every 1 Markers and set the Duration to Ignore then it won’t change the duration. If, however, you change the duration to Fit To Placement then it will change the duration to fit the marker placement. The problem with the second option is that the motion added by MotoFoto will still stop at the original duration because that’s where the keyframes have been placed. At that point the image will just stop moving for the remainder of the duration.
