Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy Typing Problem

I have been having a problem recently where something happens to FCP where I can not type anymore. It seems to be stuck on selecting tools, regardless what window I am in. When this happens I can’t close down FCP normally, often the drop down menues don’t come down either. This is driving me crazy. If I close down and open again it works fine, for bit. The biggest frustration is I am currently in a 16 show project, so this problem is really slowing me down. Any suggestions? I am not really a mac guy so maybe I am missing something. I have tried deleting the prefs though, with no luck.
    Thanks
    kevin

THE FOLLOWING COMES FROM THE KEN STONE WEBSITE:
“Over 5,000 years ago Confucius wrote: ‘If you are toiling away, you have changed nothing and FCP heads South on you, [starts behaving in strange ways] then it is time to trash your FCP Preferences.’ ”

Click the following link for instructions.

A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).
There are versions for FCP (Pro) & FCE (Express) and a new one for FCP 5.

Download these free Apple Scripts at

    https://fcprescue.andersholck.com/
    or
    https://pistolerapost2.com/fcprescue/

This is one FCP tip that has helped in solving hundreds of “odd” problems.

Please come back and tell us if replacing the prefs helped or solved this for you.
I’m always curious about this prefs thingy.
I’ve only tossed my FCP prefs once or twice in many years and generally insists, against all evidience to the contrary, that it’s not a good practice.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
