two tone silhouette, ala casino royale intro
Hi. my first post here, so Hi and congrats on the excelent site.
OK.
So im trying to do the two tone silhouette effect (black, white) in the style of the casino royale intro and i dont know if im going about it in the best possible way.
Currently im copping the layer and applying a different colour overlay to each layer, then masking out the aears i dont want so the colour shows though on the underneath layer. I dont know fi that makes sence, but if anyone could shed any light on the subject as to whether im going about this in the right way would be excelent

Apparently this was rotoscoped on the Inferno. ($$$$$) But in AE, you could do the same thing, but taking longer to do it. You study the motion carefully, draw a mask on a black solid, and animate the mask shape by setting keyframes where the shape-changing motion changes direction. This way, you use AE’s shape interpolation to animate between the keys. Then you do the same for a white solid. You might need more than one black solid. It’s slow, but that’s roto.
You could also shoot the players on greenscreen, but the white shirt wouldn’t glow quite the same way. The main light would have to be very close to camera axis, I’d think.
