The following two tiny gotchas are eating up lots of my time lately.

    1) My USB mouse has several episodes each day wherein it suddenly loses some of its functionality and I have unplug it from the USB port and replug it in to fix it, even a cold or warm boot will not reset it. Anybody got a more permanent fix?

2)Flash swf files always try to open in LiveType (is a mistake) and even do so after I set the “Open with” to open with MacProjector (Flash Player) everytime. Anyone know where to go behind the scenes to change file associations at an even deeper level than the Open with window?

    TIA,
    David

    1) Try trashing your USB mouse prefs.

    2) When you get info on a flash file, click the ‘change all’ button to change all the swfs that you currently have and any future ones.

Do you have a special mouse or did you install any software for the mouse you have or is it just an apple mouse?

I have a very special mouse, or so I tell him/her every day so it won’t just up and quit on me…

Its a Logitech cordless and I don’t think I had to install drivers, but I’ll check now. What were you thinking?

Well, if you had to install software, I am sure that there’s preferences for it. ALso, if it needs software and you haven’t installed it, that might be part of your problem too.

I think when I installed Leopard the mouse was simply working so I neglected to install the Logitech drivers. They’re in now…

Your mouse may not be getting enough power. If you’re using a USB hub make sure it’s a powered hub. I had a similar problem with my keyboard when I first switched from a G4 to a G5 and a powered hub fixed it for me.

Not using a hub Eric, but I suspect you’re right and the Mac isn’t sending a boatload of power around via the onboard USB ports.

    Hey David,

do you need the drivers of the logitech mouse? I would uninstall the logitech LCC, its really crap. When I called tech support for a software that I need because i had the same thing happened and it knocked out settings, they told me that its based on Application Enhancer, so it will really screw around with your settings.

You’re better off without the LCC! You dont need it anyway, it will detect it as a regular mouse without the drivers.

    Good luck!

    -Dave

    hmm… I wonder what this button does…
