Two questions (lightning effect & rendering issues)
Hello,
1) lightning effect
I want to add lightning effect to some footage. Problem is, I want the lightning to appear only for a short moment (5 seconds) within the 1 minute long film.
Lightning effect doesn’t seem to have an Opacity setting, so the effect is on the whole time, as its applied to the whole clip.
I’ve worked around this by splitting the footage immediately before and after the 5 seconds I want the effect, and have applied the effect to the 5 seconds in question. It works, but I now have 3 clips, not one. Consequence is that whatever else I want applied to the whole clip I have to repeat three times…
I know I could then add an adjustment layer to modify all three clips together, but then that has other consequences. I’d rather just apply the effect to a portion of the clip whilst leaving it as one piece. Is there a better method ( I thought of creating a layer just for the Lightning bit? but then what blending mode?) ??
2) Rendering
Ok, so my clip is finished. I now have a plethora of choices for rendering. Different formats, loads of different compression choices.
Where could I find out more about basic, good quality settings. For example, what format/codec is best for sending via email? What is the best for saving on CD (& sending to client). What format for DVD?
I realise everyone has different preferences, but surely there are recognised combinations that are generally in use.
I want pointers for further reading, really. The chapter in the Meyer’s book isn’t particularly detailed about that (volume 1)…Anyway, thanks for any help you can provide.
