Two for Rabinowitz (or Kramer, or both)
Posted by Darren Edwards on June 10, 2008 at 1:51 pmHi guys,
1. We thought this would clear up after upgrading to CS3, but
it hasn’t… When working in SD/PAL, applying anything high-end
– Trapcode, Magic Bullet, DigiDesign, etc. – immediately produces
erroneous, field disparity-looking lines on the footage. Even on
progressive material. Is this a PAL issue? or maybe a bit-rate
issue? Obviously we’ve been through the ‘interpret’ sub menus
a million times.2. What workstation do you use for the tutorials? 720p seems
to render amazingly quickly. Thanks in advance,

June 10, 2008 at 2:19 pmfor the first question. is opengl disabled in preferences>previews? make sure that the ‘use opengl’ option is unchecked and that accelerate previews is set to adaptive resolution.
i’ll leave the second question for aharon or andrew.

June 10, 2008 at 6:22 pmDarren, just because those guys (Kramer & Rabinowitz) have good video tutorials doesn’t mean that they’re the only ones on the forum qualified to help with your issue. The other moderators here all excel in their field, and you do them a disservice by implying that only the opinions of your preferred gurus will be welcome.
Besides, Andrew Kramer is not even a forum moderator.
If your question referred specifically to one of their tutorials, this would be more acceptable.Joey Foreman

June 10, 2008 at 7:32 pmfor the record, they time lapse their tutorials when they screen record. so we really have no idea how long it takes to RAM preview.

June 10, 2008 at 7:57 pmOops, I totally missed your reference to the tutorials in part two of your question. I was focusing on your general technical concerns in the first. Sorry to have jumped to conclusions.

June 13, 2008 at 11:17 amdo you see these lines in AE or after you render it? If you see them after you render, try using another render output format, uncompressed for instance. I had this problem if I rendered out to dv pal.

June 13, 2008 at 11:21 amIt’s as soon as the plugin’s applied. Mostly noticeable at the
edges, especially if the sky’s white. We did tweak the Open GL/adaptive resolution settings as mentioned
by Kevin (above), but it’s still a problem.D.

June 13, 2008 at 10:01 pmHere’s a screenshot example of the weird lines which occur
whenever a high-end plugin is applied (in AE or PPro) to our
DV footage.D.

June 13, 2008 at 11:36 pmFor the record, I never use 720P stuff in my tutorials. Always SD, and always Flashed forward in time so you don’t have to sit through a preview while I talk about why I love butterscotch or some other nonsense…
