I know that this can’t be done with actual 3D, but I was wondering if twising a picture could be faked in After Effects? I’m interested in having a film strip fly by, while having a twist in it.

    Have you considered 3D Warps?

you could kind of make a twist using cc page turn… nothing as nice as serge’s tutorial, but if you take your flat film strip (say 1000×100 px), put that in a comp that matches the final comp ht (say 1000×480 px) then put that in the final comp (720×480) and apply cc page turn and adjust the fold postion, direction and radius, you might get something you can work with.
