Twister effect
Posted by Choc_tpot on March 12, 2006 at 8:22 pmIm trying to create an effect of a distant twister but all the tornado emitters have an effect of looking up at the twister.
How can I ammend the emitters so that the particles are spinning horizontally, so it doesn’t look so cone like?

March 12, 2006 at 11:59 pmSomething more along the tornadoes in these video, where its mostly a blur of sideways dust and a really wide funnel?

March 13, 2006 at 6:47 pmThe second video is exactly the effect that im looking for.
Big fluffy storm clouds spiralling with flashes of lightning and a long spindly funnel where the particles have a sideway motion rather than the elliptical action of most of the emitters. -

March 15, 2006 at 10:46 amNot sure if this is any help, but here’s a test I made, which started out as the Shadow Smoke emitter and was heavily modified.
The idea was to use Forces to sculpt the shape of the funnel from a larger cloud, and to get that twisting/twirling motion (which is much more noticeable if you drop the Plume particle type’s size down to 150 or so).

March 16, 2006 at 7:32 pmI don’t seem to be able to get that test to work. It says it is not a valid particle illusion project, yet I can see an image in the preview window on the load screen?

March 16, 2006 at 7:36 pmWhat version of pI are you running? You might need to grab the update to 3.01a off the wondertouch downloads page if you’re on Windows.
