    well i am trying to make.. the usual static we get on TV screen.. i mean to say.. the black n white tiny dots.. which come when there is no signal.

    i tried using noise.. but some how not getting satisfactory results..
    any tuts out there for this..?
    pls advise.. thanks.

    Search for “Old film” in the COW’s Archives.

    Or, add the Noise effect, then, download this (always useful) then add it on top of your noise layer and play with the blending modes.

    If by any chance you’re using FCP – I can recommend the Retro_TV plugin by Digital Heaven ( https://www.digital-heaven.co.uk ) It’s a transition effect that has old ‘channel change’ and ‘on’ & ‘off’ settings, with & without picture roll etc. Even comes with sound effects! It’s $10 or $20 or something, and well worth it if it’s the effect you’re after.
