TV output
Posted by Scott Gifford on September 14, 2007 at 3:46 pmHello, I would like to know if the Black Magic intensity Pro card can be used in Vegas 8? I want to know if this is a great way to monitor my output for both video and sound. The pro card offers audio. I appreciate your input. Thanks

September 14, 2007 at 4:26 pmThe official response from a Sony rep on their Vegas forum is as follows:
As of 9/12 there are no Decklink drivers for Vegas 8 available.
Decklink drivers for Vegas 8 will be available “soon”, from the Blackmagic site.
SCS is collaborating with BMD dev on this initiative and we’ll post some further info here once their new drivers are ready.
Unlike in the past version of Vegas, Vegas 8 will always use the current Decklink drivers on the BMD site, and we expect this to be a positive step for everyone, especially if you use multiple products that connect to Decklink hardware.

September 14, 2007 at 4:31 pmDecklink is not Intensity. Intensity has never had drivers for Vegas. Intensity is an HDMI card, Decklink is an SDI card. Very different animals in implementation, but not terribly dissimilar in what they do.

September 14, 2007 at 5:04 pmWhat would be the best way to monitor the vegas timeline for output quality? Use a second computer monitor and use the vegas preview window. Use the firewire output to a TV? I’ve been using the preview window, because the firewire connected to a conopus ADVC-100 does not seem right, jerky playback. Thanks

September 14, 2007 at 6:05 pmWhat kind of footage do you have on your timeline?
What’s your computer’s CPU?
I have one edit suite with a Canpous and two more with JVC decks with firewire in/out feeding an external video monitor.
As long as I leave my Preview window set to Preview/Auto, I have no problems seeing full frame-full motion video on the external monitor (using a P4 3.4 GHZ machine).
Let me add that this is without a lot of heavy FX.
Add a few of those and playback becomes slow and jerky.
That’s when it’s time to do RAM renders.
