  • Turning text into a shape

Posted by Michael West on January 28, 2017 at 12:17 am

    All:
Taking a break at work and a thought hit me: how would I take some text (in this case the word ‘Pinafore”) and manipulate it into the shape of a boat?
Something along the lines of an oldy-timey sailing vessel (Golden Hind, HMS Victory, etc.)
Not the whole thing (sails, anchor, masts, etc.), just the keel, hull, forepeak, etc.
    Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks, and have a great weekend.

If you just want a simple shape you could use some deformers.

Here I split the name into two – Pina and fore – so that I could apply separate bend deformers to each. I also added a taper deformer to “fore” in order to squeeze in the bow.

The Mesh Deformer would provide better control.

    Jim & Adam:
    Apologies for the late reply.
Thank you both for your input.
