Turning off Scene Detect in 5.1
Posted by Kent Kajino on April 28, 2006 at 8:43 amIs there a way to turn off Scene Detect when capturing from DV or HDV tapes?

April 28, 2006 at 10:48 amIs there scene detect for DV on capture? I thought it was only on HDV. Maybe it occurs on downconverted HDV as well. There should be a toggle for this in clip settings in log and capture, but it may not work for all cameras.
All the best,

April 28, 2006 at 3:10 pmFor DV, FCP only does scene detection after capture. You have to select the “DV stop/start detection” in the Mark menu to use it. For HDV, I don’t think it can be turned off. I think it has something to do with the way the GOP structure changes at the head of each new shot.

I have only tried HDV with FCP5.1 so I didn’t know the capture options were different from DV.
It seems like I will have to live with the automatic scene detect behavior, and replace the clips on the timeline manually.
The clips I have were logged and captured as downconverted DV, then edited onto a sequence in a different NLE. I had he project ported into FCP for HDV capture.
