    Hi,

Can you use an expression to turn off or on a layer? I know i can use an expression to control the layer’s opacity and hence off/on, but is there any way to directly turn off the layer (i.e turn off the eye) without the use of the opacity control?

not with expressions. expression are limited to controlling properties that can be key framed, and even then there are some exceptions.

an expression can test to see if a layer is active, but it can’t control that…

a script could make it active/inactive, but i’m not sure if that is any help for what you are trying to do.

    Thanks Kevin.

I’m thinking i might use the expression to control the layer’s scale (0/100) for on/off as i need the opacity to control other parameters.

    that would probably work…

if not, then you could try adding an effect like transform that would give you another transparency property to work with.
