I’m editing a piece right now that was shot in DVCPRO 16:9 and imported as DVCPRO 720×480 w/ no letterbox, so its distorted. (not really sure if there was a reason the studio imported like that?) My sequence settings are dv 3:2 and NTSC 16:9 aspect ratio. I am just getting annoyed at having to change the aspect ratio in the distort parameter in the motion tab every time I bring my clip into the sequence. When I bring it into the sequence, FCP automatically decides to squeeze it to 33.33…. is there a reason for this? When I go in and change the aspect ratio parameter back to 0 it looks great. I guess my question is, is there a way to turn off the auto distort setting?

    thanks

What version are you using? There is a checkbox for scaling in the current versions user preferences.

    All the best,

    I’m using FCP 6.0.5

I can’t find it for the life of me! Ha sorry! Where exactly in the user preferences?

Is the anamorphic checkbox for your clip checked in the Browser?

THANK YOU THANK YOU BILL! I cant believe I forgot about that little box! Thats what saved me! I’m still curious about Tom’s auto scale option in the user preferences though…

Lower right of the Editing panel. Right below the auto conform preference.

    All the best,
