Turn off a power window over time
Posted by Sean Lennon on December 16, 2020 at 9:07 pmI want to deactivate a power window with some grading in it at a certain point on a clip, how would I do this? Keyframes?

December 16, 2020 at 9:19 pmYes I would use keyframes… and use the KEY function and select Key Output and select a gain of 0 to turn off your grade on that particular clip.

December 18, 2020 at 12:16 amI would do it with keyframes but there is another way. If you place an adjustment layer above the clip you can apply a grade to the adjustment layer and then fade that layer out or in over the shot.
There are times when that simple approach will work. For complexity, keyframes are your friend. I would not use that method for power windows but it might be a way to add a complex grade overlay to a graded sequence. I’ve used to it slowly transition a scene to a high contrast black & white.

December 18, 2020 at 4:26 pmLook at page #2873 in the DaVinci Resolve Reference Manual from August 2020 (v16)… it will explain in details how to use the Key palette, and the Key output control in particular…
