Posted by Paul Gregory on September 9, 2012 at 5:50 am

It’s rare that any of my projects doesn’t contain some still photo’s. Every so often I forget to set switch to reduce interlace flicker & end up having to re re render project. Is there any way to make the default for this to be always on? Actually I can’t think of any event where I would want it turned off. Is there any valid reason for this?

    Thanks in advance

When I edit interlaced footage for broadcast I must switch this on events I want to zoom. Otherwise there will be half fields conflict. But on events that are interlaced and not zoomed, I will have this switched off, otherwise it will deinterlace them and the render will loose half fields.

I am not sure if I sound clear. It really matters when you edit interlaced project for broadcast.

But can’t I just turn it on & have ‘on’ as my default?

    Thanks in advance

I don’t know. I would rather have it switched off by default, but I work with different type of projects.

[Paul Gregory] “Actually I can’t think of any event where I would want it turned off. Is there any valid reason for this?”

The only reason for having this turned ON is if you have still images with thin lines or as Grzegorz said, you are zooming in. Otheriwse, I see no reason to have this on as it alters the image slightly and creates longer render times for no reason (which is why the default is OFF).

No, unfortunately, it’s not something you can turn on and off. You should only turn it on when you need it (i.e., you see flickering and want to remove it)
