Trying to Replicate “Friday the 13th” Titles in AE Using Element 3D

I am trying to replicate these titles – specifically the extrusion from a flat origin that appears to be growing out of the origin.
I have tried to do this using Element 3D and creating a flat copy at my chosen origin (in Z space) in one group and an extruded copy in another group. The origin of the extruded copy lines up perfectly with the flat copy in Z space. I am then using a “Uniform” animation type within the animation engine and messing with delay options. However, the extruded copy just appears fully extruded, it does not grow out of the flat copy at the origin.
What am I missing? Should I be doing this in C4D? I am a newb in C4D…

Thanks, Dave. Any specific direction? I have only really used echo in this fashion to create an effect where the echos suck back into the title upon resolving.

Hey Dave, been experimenting with echo and echospace from trapcode. Not yielding the results I was hoping for, unable to generate shading they way I have achieved with element. Any direction would be much appreciated.

You can scale the extruded shape along the z axis in Element to create that effect. Or push it in z space through a “wall” object set to matte shadow. Also, rather than using a separate text layer and aligning it with the Element layer, I would use two bevel copies in Element to create the front face and the extrusion colors.
