  • Trying to render, black bars appear when I resize

Posted by Ron Whitaker on July 9, 2011 at 1:48 am

I’m rendering a project, but need to make the final render width less than 450 pixels wide.

In the Render As box, when I set the size to Internet-320 x 240, the system ads those ugly black boxes at the top and bottom. Why? Is it because it’s a 4:3 ratio?

Is there any way I can customize a rendering size–let’s say around 420 to 430 width–without having the black bars appear at the top and bottom?

    Thanks.

The problem is that your project aspect doesn’t match your render aspect. If you make your project properties match your render properties you will see the black bars in your project. Then crop your video events to remove the black bars and they won’t be in your render anymore.

There’s a selection box on the “render as” pop-up menu (which I ignore all the time) that says Strech video to fill output frame size (do not letterbox). Not sure if you tried that?

BTW this will strech andor squash your video (that’s why I forget about it)

I tried that. Didn’t work. Bars still there.

That worked! I didn’t even know that was there on the Render As dialog box! I had to scroll down to find it! I hadn’t even noticed that you could scroll down.

    Thank you!
