  • Trying to recreate “Golden Outer Bevel” for Red text

    Hi,

I’m fairly new to AfterEffects, though I’m learning, and my bad of tricks is still fairly light.

I am trying to recreate the Golden Outer Bevel for some text (as in the image below). Can someone help get me started?

The outer bevel in “Layer Styles” seems like a good start but it kind of rounds the sharp corners of the letters. And i don’t really know how to make it golden after I apply it.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Try using layer styles. They work similar to Photoshop.

    Hi, yes, I’ve tried that.

But the bevel loses the sharp corners in my text.

Also, i don’t know how to make it golden. The beveled sections seem to be somewhat transparent even if i set the opacity to 100 both both highlights and shadow.

I think you could benefit from watching this tutorial on Multi-Bevel effects. I used his technique and created a 2 layer multi-layer bevel. The Text layer I turned off. The Bevel Angular, has an expression back to the source text, to update the text. I used a text animator to change the color of the bevel to be gold. Then made a shape layer out of the text, turned off the fill, turned on the stroke, added Bevel too it. I adjusted both layers in Z space, parented them both to the original layer for the movement.

When the text turns too much, the layer stacking becomes more evident, but if you aren’t going to move or rotate the layers too much, it probably won’t be noticed. Or maybe someone else will have a solution to that problem. See attached example project.
