Hey there! This would be my first post on here, and I’m hoping someone out there might have a solution for what I’m trying to do.

This really isn’t a Vegas question, but since I’ve been using Vegas since version 2.0, I’d rather talk with other editors/filmmakers using Vegas than some other program.

So my problem is this. I’m trying to pull off a title sequence that I haven’t seen anywhere, but it should be relatively simple to pull off in theory. I’m sure all of you at some point have hooked up your camera to your TV, pointed it straight at the TV and watched as you traveled into the infinite screen in a screen in a screen vortex that it creates. Well, what I want to do is to pull off that same effect, but with titles in the middle, thus creating an infinite amount of layers of the same title. My question is this: is there a way to generate masked text and place it over the video capture window while the computer captures the live video as I shoot my preview monitor? It would probably require an outside program that allows you to type directly onto your desktop, without any background whatsoever.

I’m sure I could find an old school character generator somewhere for pretty cheap, but I’d really like to have access to the fonts on my comptuer. But if ANYONE has any suggestions here, I’d greatly appreciate it. I’m pretty stumped, and that sucks because this should be relatively easy.

    Thanks!

If you are going for the old-school point-your-camera-at-the-monitor look, I would suggest exactly that.

Print your title to tape, play it back and shoot the monitor (assuming you have a separate camera and something else to play the tape).

Gary, thanks for the reply, but I’m not sure if you totally understand the effect I’m going for. What I really want is for the text to appear over a live feed of video where if I was to film the screen with the text over it, the text would be multiplied infinitely along with the TV. I couldn’t just hook up a camera to the TV with titles on it and film that because there would be no masking around the text and I’d just be filming a screen with text on it.

Hopefully this better explains what I’m looking for.

This is really low tech, but could you print your text on a transparency, and stick the transparency on the TV screen?

I thought about that one too, but the problem there is that I’d need white ink in order to make it work because red, blue or yellow wouldn’t show up too well on a black background (which is what it would be if you shot into a blank tv screen). Haha, this one really is a brain buster. Someone’s bound to have a solution here!

If it’s not too many letters how about taping/tacky glueing on the screen white cut out letters. Or black letters and overexposing the camera.

    Hi,

Check out Particle Illusion, I bet that it’s capable of doing
    that effect for you.
