Trying to mask to get clone effect… only getting black screen
I’m a once-in-a-blue-moon kind of AE user.
I’m trying to do the basic “cloning” technique in AE. I’ve looked at a handful of tutorials and they all seem to breeze over some of the basics.
I brought two clips into a new composition. When I pen out a new mask, it just brings up the other side black.
I know this is a common fix/dumb error… just trying to figure out what I’m doing wrong.

Hi there,
You don’t need a mask to use cloning. Here’s a free movie that will show you using the clone tool to remove something from a shot;https://www.video2brain.com/en/videos-1503.htm
If you want to clone from one layer to another;
1) Select the layer that you want to paint onto.
2) Select the Clone tool.
3) In the Paint panel, select the piece of footage you wish to paint from in the “Source” menu.
4) Choose a brush from the Brushes panel
5) Alt-click to select the source pixels for the Clone
6) Paint on the layerNote: You can also offset the paint in time so you can paint from a different time as well as a different place.

When you say cloning, do you mean you’re trying to have multiple people in a shot or using the clone brush?
