    Hi:

I’m trying to import Final Cut Pro generated
    MPEG IMX 525/60 (50 Mb/s) files
into Avid Media Composer 3.5.4 on my PC Laptop

    Results:
    1. My Quicktime player v7.6.6 plays only the audio but not the video image.
    2. Similarly, when I import the files into Avid, I can hear the audio but the video is blank (white).
    3. The timecode is in tact. (Good)
    4. When placing a video clip into the timeline, the audio bars display identical left & right stereo, but if I try to listed to each channel separately, the A1 channel shows activity on the audio bar, but no sound is heard. Sound is heard on the A2 channel with identical audio bar activity.

The statistics on the files show that they are at 720×486 resolutions, with millions of colors, 16-bit Integer (Little Endian) Stereo, 48KHz, and 29.97 FPS.

I set my Avid project at NTSC 30i, and my import settings are for Even(lower field) first, 601 SD color, Alpha Channel (do not invert on import) (I’ve also tried with the invert on import option — which is correct?), DV50 MXF format.

What can I do to be able to import these files? (Settings, CODECs, etc.) – This is for a big contract – I thank you for your urgent reply.

    Best Regards,

    Dan.

Just an update on my progress:

I solved the audio issue by selecting not to convert the source audio to the current sample rate (event though my current settings were identical), and by choosing the MPEG 50 file format option.

Also, I read on the Avid website that when importing a non-avid generated source file, the alpha channel option should be to invert.

However, I’m still not seeing any image come through, rather only a white (blank) image.

With that in mind, I appreciate your urgent help in providing me with a solution to import and view Final Cut Pro MPEG IMX 525/60 (50 Mb/s) files on my PC based Avid Media Composer.

    Thanks again,

    Dan.

Wow. Well, you are dealing with a proprietary FCP codec…just like capturing HDV and DVCPRO HD via FCP make those QT files only viewable on systems with FCP installed. And unlike Avid, not all of FCPs codecs are available for download from Apple. Sometimes you have to rely on third party solutions.

Try Calibrated…it has options for DVCPRO HD and HDV…might for IMX…

    Hi Shane:

Thank you dearly for your recommendation! I visited the https://www.calibratedsoftware.com website and found that they have a product for both PC & MAC called “Calibrated{Q} IMX Decode” for only $59.95. I immediately E-Mailed them at info@calibratedsoftware.com, and received a response within an hour! (even though it was early morning) For you and all others interested – Here is their response below.

Not only did the software work with flying colors, but it was easy and intuitive to use and the documentation was detailed and clear. I was not only able to view the native MPEG IMX 525/60 files in my QuickTime 7.6.6 Player, but also able to import them unaltered into Avid Media Composer using the MPEG 50 setting, and export them out without alteration, using the “Same As Source” option, which yielded Avid MPEG2 50 files. The export was at high speed, as it obviously was able to export the files without converting the source footage.

Calibrated’s E-Mail support was prompt, informative, and cordial. I highly recommend their software as a solution to this proprietary CODEC issue.

    Best Wishes,

    Dan.

    Hi,

Thanks for the interest in our software!

Per your question – yes it sounds like Calibrated{Q} IMX Decode for Windows will help you out. You can download it here:

    https://www.calibratedsoftware.com/QIMXDownload.asp

and try it out. Without a Software License, it will operate in DEMO MODE (where a product logo watermark is placed over the video) – that’s the only DEMO MODE limitation – everything else is fully functional.

To remove the DEMO MODE limitation – you can purchase a Software License in our online store here:

    Cheers,
    Greg
