  • Trying to get Deck Control Sony BVW-75P using FCP 6.0

Posted by Esther Leonard on February 5, 2008 at 4:26 pm

Hey, I need to get deck control of a Sony Betacam SP BVW-75P using Final Cut Pro 6.0. I have the deck connected through Canopus for video signal, and a 9pin RS422 for deck control, but alas it is refusing to work for me. I’ve made a new capture preset, with Sony RS422 as the Protocol, but the capture window tells me that there is no communication. I am able to capture stuff, as the video signal is coming through fine, but i need to be able to control the deck.
If anyone could give me any tips t’would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Esty

do you have the “remote” rs-422 button flipped on? (on the deck)

some of the older decks have 2 rs-422 ports, one of them won’t work.

some of the older decks have a switch to change the protocol, I have an old sony beta that does. Try changing that if you have it.

I find the FCP6 serial device control to be freakishly sensitive and anxious to crash the system if anything twitches. Kona3 with breakout box that was pretty good up until a few months ago.

The deck is RS422 control. The computer is RS232. You need an adaptor that will convert RS422 to RS232.

    Hey Wayne,

Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world… What the heck are you doing here???

BTW Esther, I think Wayne’s right on this issue… Addenda electronics is a good source for the adapter you need.

Macs always supported both serial protocols.
