Ok im trying to put together a portable rackmount field recording setup. I have hardware here in mind that i believe will work however i’d just like to double check here, or if anyone has a better way to set this up or better hardware that would be awesome.
Currently have a Canon EOS 5d Mark III – Magic Lantern software and a canon EOS 5d MarkII
Planning on hooking it all together.
Blackmagic Design Smartview HD
Hyperdeck Studio Pro
AJA IoXT – Connect to Laptop
Cyberpower Rackmount PDU power strip 12 outlet 20A 2400v a – $50.91
Im torn here between the AJA mini converter and the Black Magic one.
AJA HA5 Mini Converter HDMI to HD/SD-SDI Video and Audio Converter
BlackMagic HDMI to SDI converter
Basic connections HDMI out and audio 1/4 jack to BlackMagic (just HDMI for the AJA).
SDI running from the converter to the AJA IoXT.
SDI out from the IoXT to the HyperDeck Studio Pro and SDI out from the Studio Pro to the Smartview HD.
Interchangeable setup if i want to review recordings or whatnot or review it directly from the AJA IoXT (not sure how much color accuracy is lost between 4:2:2 and 4:4:4)
Either way wondering if i could get some opinions on this setup. If its feasible or is there a better way to wire them etc etc.
Thanks in advance!

Why not just monitor via HDMI?
Secondly, I strongly suggest you test the HDMI feed vs the H.264 feed and then decide for yourself if the external recorder is worth it.

No no I’m editing with pro res 422 not h.264. Hdmi direct monitoring will never produce accurate colors compared to direct sdi monitoring with a broadcast monitor I’m editing using autodesk smoke as well so it doesn’t display as well on a secondary screen
