    Hello,

I’m trying to figure out the technique used in the following video https://vimeo.com/77127939 at:

    – 00:25: there’s a cross fade but the clips seems to brighten up too?

    – 00:35: is it a flare coming through from below? or a light built in after effect? (which sort?)

I have thought both the above might have been the results of some light source coming in during the actual shooting, but I still think it’s an added effect – am I wrong?

    thanks

First is a fade through white and the second looks like maybe a little film burn overlay with a cut in the middle. I bet you’d like film burns even though they’re a liiiiiiitle bit different.

This video has 5 free ones:

Thanks both for this, although Dave I think you misunderstood the second transition (maybe there was a lag with the playback): I meant the shot where there is a table with a vase of flowers on it and then it changes to a field with a tent on the back.
George I’m not 100% sure is a film burn though (I meant to write film burn in my first post instead of flare); it seems to come up from the lower part of the frame in a very steady way, while film burns seem to flicker quite a lot. You would rule out a light was created in After Effects (or similar) then?

Ya, that second transition probably isn’t a film burn, just similar.

There are a lot of ways to do the second one. You could use a solid or shape layer that is a pale yellow move it downward so its about halfway covering the bottom of the frame, add a blur, change the blend mode to overlay, add or multiply (play to see what you like) and fade in and out the opacity and cut the video in the middle.
