  • Trying to export AAF to Pro-Tools with AMA Clips in Sequence-How?

OK I’m new to the Avid world. In Final Cut Pro, I would simply export my sequence as an OMF and open it in Pro-Tools or whatever other audio program our sound designers would use. With MC6, I’m editing a project with AMA clips. No matter what I do to try and export out an AAF, I get errors telling me I can’t export with AMA clips. What would the simple way of doing this be? I’m assuming it’s possible, because if it’s not then AMA would be a waste of time.

I’m a little confused as to why I would need to transcode when all I really need is the audio.

It’s a limitation of AMA. Hopefully it will be remedied at some point.

Just duplicate your sequence, remove the video, and transcode the audio. It should be quick, won’t take up much space, and gets around the AMA limitations. It’s not perfect, but it’s a solution.

Yup…just transcode the final sequence, with handles. That shouldn’t take long.

Still the limitation with AMA. Avid still craves Avid media formats for a lot of things it does.
